I know you don't read this anymore. I try not to let it get me down but, it is a fairly sad thing. To know that era is over.
---------
Himmel stared out over the grey town. Why was she even here, anymore? What stake did she have in things? The sun shone down in a momentary break from the rain - a rare thing, as anyone knew. She'd given it all up for this place. And wished she could take it back.
Footsteps aproached from behind her, and she turned to look. Kimoura's features had gotten harder since she arrived here. Himmel could scarcely recognize kindness in the woman's face anymore. Surely she was dealing with her own demons, those of which could only be shared with one person. But where was that person? Himmel shared the sentiment.
The war was over but it was not really over. They hadn't gained any ground at all, unless you count Harrow - and no one counted Harrow. Except maybe the Greys.
"Staring and waiting for something to happen?" Kimoura's voice was strong and feminine - or make that, womanly. She didn't wear the traditional Western garb anymore, white cloth now adorned her hips. Himmel longed for red in this colourless place, but it seemed even Kimoura could have the colour taken from her. Not that she knew the woman well, but this she could gather.
"I'm wasting my time here" Himmel answered.
"I would that you never came" and icy voice echoed from a dark corridor in the cold marble building. "You two meddled in things that never should have been messed with." The muffled footsteps of soft leather boots sounded, and a small form came into view. Uneven hair and without horns, but Himmel could still recognize Kemuri. What did that say? "You think you've helped these Greys? You've only made things worse, for everyone."
Kimoura remained silent, being either diplomatic or weary. But Himmel turned to him, clear rage written on her pale face. Kemuri almost felt pleasure at seeing her this way, small and broken, no longer the majestic person he'd known Himmel to be before. But pleasure was far from Kemuri now.
"What did you accomplish?" Himmel searched for an answer to this question but couldn't find and answer. "Nobody won this war, and some of us lost...everything". On that last word the boy's voice broke, and the pain was felt by all in the room. It was not like Kemuri to show emotions. It was not like Kemuri to
have emotions.
"Don't you talk to me about loss." the bitterness rose in Himmel's throat, and she knew Kemuri would have been gloating about this - sometime in the past. "We both lost everything in this war, do you think I don't realize? Youkai was
killed"
"NO" Kemuri seemed to be on the verge of tears. Even Kimoura, watching passively, had to be surprised. "But she was innocent! Lord knows Youkai
never was, lord knows she did a lot to deserve it! And you, Himmel? Look how far you've fallen. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of things you've done, either."
Himmel reached and grabbed Kemuri by the collar, he felt the boy shake under his grip. But it was with rage and not fear. Himmel knew he had fallen, and knew he had given up everything for this war, for this stupid rain-ridden world.
And it wouldn't be surprising if people despised the Greys for this the most.
